DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY
BUSINESS PROBLEM:
A full-service diagnostic laboratory ceasing operations approached us for assistance with determining and developing the best approach to access the lab’s billing and patient data and reports for future inquires since the existing system was being shut down. Furthermore, they requested consulting services to ensure the systems and data were securely migrated to a HIPPA-compliant cloud provider.
SCALESOLOGY IN ACTION:
Based on several constraints that the receiver was facing, Scalesology implemented the following solutions to ensure continued access to patient data:
Replication and migration of the laboratory and billing system database.
Development of a user-friendly web application enabling efficient search capabilities for billing and patient information, along with the capability to generate corresponding reports, such as the Accounts Receivable report. Due to the lack of reference documentation, Scalesology performed an in-depth exploration of the database and discerned inter-table relationships. Leveraging advanced SQL queries, we successfully replicated intricate billing and patient reports. Subsequently, we transformed views into tables and implemented optimization strategies such as indexing, significantly enhancing overall performance.
A PDF search application to retrieve historical lab reports based on report identifiers (e.g., patient name, test name, date). A python script was written to parse individual patient reports from multiple, large bulk PDF files containing thousands of reports each into cloud storage. An OOB search application was optimized to quickly pull reports based on a user search query.
RESULT:
As a result of Scalesology's comprehensive approach, the Diagnostic Laboratory now benefits from migrated and optimized custom applications that allow for swift and precise retrieval of billing and patient details and reports. These integrated solutions sped up the time to receive information and provided insightful decision-making capabilities to assist in ongoing operational requirements.
